[edit] Alviss

{アルヴィス, Aruvisu)
anime voices:Souichirou Hoshi|Yuri Lowenthal Main article: Alviss

The cold figure of MÄR, Alviss is the one who brought Ginta into MÄR-Heaven. He joined the Cross Guard in the 1st War Game and grew fond of their leader, Danna, with whom he shared the very same goal for which they put their lives at risk, to fight the Chess and protect MÄR-Heaven. This pure courage, however, got Alviss further than he could ever have expected even in his wildest dream, Phantom also chose him as one who would reside in the dreary future of MÄR-Heaven, in the form of a Zombie-tattooed undead. He along with dorothy appear 6 years after the second war games. He and Alan have fought in both war games.

[edit] Nanashi

(ナナシ, Nanashi)
Main article: Nanashi anime voices:Masaya Onosaka|Liam O'Brien

Nanashi was found by Galian in the middle of nowhere, lying alone and nearly dead due to a nasty wound in his stomach. After he was revived by him and taken to the bandit Guild of Luberia, it turned out he had no memory of his past or even his name, and thus Galian named him Nanashi (nameless). Galian would later betray Nanashi, joining the Chess Pieces and leaving him in charge of Luberia after erasing his memory of him. Nanashi's main goal is to track down the Chess Piece responsible for wiping out Luberia (Peta) and avenge his slain allies.

[edit] Trivia

  • Though most likely coincidence, Dorothy subtly resembles the Sheep class Trickster in Trickster Online.
  • The witch Dorothy is a direct derivation from Dorothy Gale of The Wizard of Oz. Most of her Guardian ÄRMs are plays on characters from the series: Her favourite ÄRM she calls "Toto" referring to Dorothy's dog Toto. Flying Leo is the Cowardly Lion, Ring Armor/Rock Giant Golem as the Tinman, Crucified Scarecrow is the Scarecrow, and Crazy Quilt is Patchwork Girl from The Patchwork Girl of Oz of the same author. Also, in place of the Wicked Witch of the West, the one whom Dorothy must kill is her witch sister, Diana, while the one commanding the act instead of Oz is Kaldea's Grand Elder.
  • The princess Snow is a derivation from princess Snow White of the fairytale Snow White.
  • Jack the peasant boy is designed after Jack the farmer from the tale of Jack and the Beanstalk.
  • The name of Alviss is derived from Alvíss, a dwarf in Norse mythology who was tricked by Thor into petrifying himself, ironically caused by his profound wisdom which successfully answered all of Thor's questions.
  • The top head of Alviss' ÄRM 13 Totem Pole is most certainly a homage to the giant robot Red Baron, the tittle robot of a live-action and anime series.
  • The name of the magic kingdom Kaldea, is very possibly derived from Chaldea, a Hellenistic designation for a country situated in southern Babylonia recorded in ancient scripts, whose scholars were found to be extraordinarily versed in all forms of incantation, sorcery, witchcraft and magicals arts, beside being masters in writing and reading.
  • In episode 5 of the series Hayate no Gotoku Ginta and Dorothy make a special guest appearance for an applause at Hayate's magnificent save of a falling octopus truck.
  • In the English version, when Snow is training with Ginta in the Training Dimension, Ginta makes a comment about all the Guardians he's seen were "lions and golems and stuff." to which Snow responds "oh my!". This is reference to a song in the Wizard of Oz called "lions and tigers and bears. Oh my!"
