Sarah Band (サラ・バンド, Sara Bando) is the vice-captain of the Ghost Chess.

Etymology and Origin[]

Sarah's full name is derived from the term sarabande, which is a dance in triple meter that originated in Central America back in the sixteenth century. It became popular in the Spanish colonies before making its way to Europe. At first, it was regarded as being rather scandalous, even being banned in Spain for its obscenity.

History[]

As Kapel Meister's secretary and vice-captain of the Ghost Chess, Sarah was often in charge of coordinating the other members such as the Flat Sisters.

Sarah gathers the Ghost Chess in the factory to greet Kapel Meister after he secures Phantom from Lestava Castle and successfully implants the Ghost ÄRM, Rondo of Time, on Alviss's chest. Kapel gives the others orders to bring Alviss to Pultgayin Island and instructs Sarah to fetch the legendary ÄRM from Clavier. Sarah reminds him that the Misty Knights are still guarding the path, but Kapel takes out a bracelet ÄRM and offers it to Sarah, telling her that it hides the presence of other Ghost ÄRMs and may prove useful in deceiving the Misty Knights.

Sarah then makes her way to the coliseum on the islet next to the island. At the end of the bridge, the Misty Knights appear, and Misty Hajdu asks Sarah if she wishes to enter the Misty Castle, Clavier. Sarah kneels in respect while the ÄRM that Kapel gave her activates, hiding her wicked impurities and Ghost ÄRMs from them. Misty Hajdu states that souls of the knights accept Sarah's heart, but note the otherworldly scent in the vicinity. Sarah confirms her suspicions, saying a boy from another world seeks Clavier and must receive divine judgement.

Sarah Spying

Sarah watches the Misty Knights corner Ginta and his friends.

She briefly returns to the fortress to give the Flat Sisters the order to stand by and allow Team MÄR to approach, then goes back to the coliseum and waits in the spectator seats to observe as Ginta, Babbo, Dorothy, and Belle are greeted by the Misty Knights. When the knights chase after them downstairs underneath the coliseum, Sarah secretly follows to continue watching the show.

Before Misty Hajdu can strike, fog fills the cave and the ghost ship of Vestry sails into the oceanside cave entrance. Alma manifests above and Misty Hajdu immediately bows to Alma's pure aura. Alma informs Misty Hajdu that she has been deceived by the Ghost Chess regarding Ginta and Dorothy's true nature. She then turns her attention to Sarah, who was hiding in the shadows of the cave, and using her own power to break the ÄRM that fooled Misty Hajdu. Sarah immediately flees and Misty Hajdu realizes the error of her judgment.

She returns to the factory to check on the status of Alan and Nanashi when she is then joined by General and Pause, who bring with them Jack, Snow, Chaton, and Loco tied up. Suddenly, Chaton's ropes loosen and fall, and she immediately attacks Sarah with her Nyan Nyan Wave, knocking her unconscious against the wall. She is joined by General and Pause after Loco joins in helping Chaton rescue Team MÄR.

Sarah and the rest of the Ghost Chess join Kapel Meister to confront Team MÄR in the battlegrounds of the coliseum. In the free-for-all, Sarah attempts to use her Scythe Hand to attack Alviss in the back while he ran up the stairs to Clavier, but Dorothy interferes with her Nature ÄRM, Zephyrus Broom.

After Alviss ascended to Clavier, Kapel Meister frustratingly gave chase. Ginta, Babbo, and Dorothy pulled him back from celestial stairs. The rest of the Ghost Chess prepared to engage, but Sarah stepped forward and assured her teammates she would handle Team MÄR. Sarah then activates her Ghost ÄRM, Jagdruf, turning her arms into bowguns. Sarah managed to hit most of Team MÄR with red arrows, however Dorothy instinctively jumped on her broom and flew out of the way just in time. The mouths of the bows begin sucking the life force and magic from the marked prey.

Sarah's Death

Sarah tells Kapel to hurry up the stairs as she continues absorption. However, with his attempt thwarted and Team MÄR gathering strength to stand back up, Sarah pushes herself to absorb even more. Dorothy finishes blowing the other Ghost Chess away and sees Sarah's skin wrinkling and veins protruding. Sarah pushes herself further, and Dorothy runs over yelling to stop. Both teams then take notice to Sarah's body rapidly aging and drying, her arms cracking from stress. Finally, her ÄRM deactivates as she runs out of energy and magic to power it, and she collapses.

The rest of her teammates rush to her side to help her sit up. Sarah raises her hand up to Kapel Meister, who coldly looked back upon her from the coliseum's cauldron, and dies as her body turns to dust.

ÄRMs[]

Like the other Ghost Chess Pieces, Sarah specializes in Ghost ÄRMs. Sarah Band's ÄRMs are:

  • ???: An unnamed bracelet ÄRM that she uses to deceive the Misty Knights when they look into her heart for impure thoughts.
  • Scythe Hand: An unnamed Ghost ÄRM that turns the user's hands into scythe blades.
  • Jagdruf: Turns the users hands into two bow-like constructs with demonic faces that absorb the magical power of enemies.
