Kapel Meister (カペル・マイスター, Kaperu Maisutā) was the leader of the Ghost Chess and admirer of Phantom.

Personality

As a man of science obsessed with gaining power, Kapel genuinely believed that Ghost ÄRMs were the most powerful ÄRM class and that only chosen ones such as himself were capable of mastering them.

Etymology

Kapellmeister is a German word designating a person in charge of music-making. The word is a compound, consisting of the roots Kapelle (“choir”, “orchestra”, or literally, “chapel”) and Meister (“master”). Kapelle derives from the Latin word capella. Thus, originally, the word was used to refer to somebody in charge of music in a chapel. However, the term has evolved considerably in its meaning in response to changes in the musical profession.

History

After losing the War Games, Diana banishes Phantom from the Chess Pieces. As Phantom sees little reason to live anymore, Kapel Meister arrives at Lestava Castle to bring him back to Pultgayin Island with him.

Kapel Meister blames MÄR for Phantom's current depressed state. He seeks the legendary ÄRM of the sky castle Clavier in order to restore Phantom to his reign and usurps even the King and Queen. Using the Ghost ÄRM, Rondo of Time, he accelerates the progression of Alviss' Zombie Tattoo and presents a mindwashed Alviss to Phantom, much to Rolan's chagrin.

After absorbing his remaining Ghost Chess subordinates, Kapel Meister activated his Ghost ÄRM, Analysis From Abyss, and transformed into humanoid demon, growing horns, wings, and a tail. He then opens his mouth to continuously exhale smoke that would solidify into monstrous serpent. The serpent immediately began attacking Team MÄR while they frantically jumped out of the way with each dive. Chaton carried Loco and Belle to a safer distance while the remainder of Team MÄR launched a counterattack; Ginta, Babbo, and Dorothy battled against the serpent and Snow, Jack, Nanashi, and Alan went after Kapel Meister himself. He stops producing smoke to fly up and attempt to defend his serpent from Babbo, Version 3: Gargoyle, but is immediately met with a barrage of Nature (and Dimension) ÄRM attacks. Kapel Meister is able to withstand the assault and hold his position, preaching that the magnificence of his Ghost ÄRM could never fall to lower magic such as theirs. Ginta dismisses his delusion, saying they could never lose to power gained from sacrificing his teammates.

The serpent takes a direct hit from Gargoyle's maximum power attack, instantly dissolving and Kapel Meister's body begins to crumble from having been indirectly hit as well. Out of anger, he uses an attack from his abdomen, causing the islet that the coliseum was situated on to sink. Dorothy rushes on her broom to catch Ginta and Babbo, who were both free-falling into the ocean below. Before she could get there in time, Alviss appears to catch him instead, as he was making his way back down the stairs from Clavier. Realizing that Alviss still had his Zombie Tattoo, Kapel Meister laughs that the Almetici ÄRM was a myth after all, concluding that Ghost ÄRMs were truly the most powerful as he completely disintegrates and dies.

• Gemul Essen: A Ghost ÄRM medallion that attaches onto a victim and penetrates the body to fuse with the heart.
• Analysis From Abyss: A Ghost ÄRM that turns the user into a humanoid demon.
