Kai (カイ, Kai) is the protagonist of MÄR Omega. An ÄRMsmith's fosterling, he admires Ginta for his deeds in the Second Great MÄR Heaven War.
Appearance[]
Kai is a young adolescent boy with shaggy scarlet hair and rusty red eyes.

As a child, Kai was much more reclusive due to his amnesia and rarely smiled, but his true self began to shine after befriending Elisa.
Foolish and impulsive, he has always wanted an ÄRM as powerful as Babbo, but is incapable of using any, as commented by his foster father, for his character is too hesitant to rely on help from others including ÄRMs.
Etymology and Origin[]
Kai is based on the deuteragonist of the fairy tale, The Snow Queen.
History[]
Long ago, when his father, Babbo, was the Elder of Caldea, a wicked magician named Unwetter created Fake ÄRMs which ruined many lives throughout MÄR Heaven. Babbo and Unwetter engaged in battle, and despite being unable to kill him, Babbo managed to defeat Unwetter by sealing him away. However, Kai was gravely wounded from the conflict.
Despite having already destroyed most of the Fake ÄRMs, a few were saved, one of which was a life support system. Babbo frantically carried his dying son to the machine and placed him inside. Since Fake ÄRMs require an individual's life force to use, Babbo voluntarily used his own by hooking his body up to the machine to transfer his life force to Kai. Simultaneously, he then downloaded his soul into a unique ball-and-chain Weapon ÄRM so that he wouldn't completely die, thus becoming a sentient ÄRM. In addition to wiping the memories of Fake ÄRMs from the minds of everyone who became involved with them, Babbo then sealed his own memories of his human life in special Magic Stones, which are scattered throughout MÄR Heaven. As Babbo continued to live as a living ÄRM, Kai remained comatose as the life support machine slowly healed him for the next three hundred years.

As the Chess Pieces' second war campaign began, Kai finally woke up, fully healed from his injuries but had lost all memory of who he was. With the War Games underway, the first phase of massacre to settlements throughout the world seemingly ceased, and a Caldean sorcerer brought Kai to Hanau to put him in foster care in a quiet and safer environment. With a magic stone pendant heirloom as his only possession, Kai became the foster son of the local ÄRMsmith.
Eventually he befriended a street dog in the alley, and played with him frequently. One rainy day while playing outside the town walls, Kai saw noticed the nearby river's water level had risen to the point of flooding, and his canine friend was trapped on a large boulder surrounded by water. Kai attempted to wade through to reach him but the dog barked aggressively back. Hesitantly wavering on the next action to take, he eventually ran back to the town to get help. By the time Kai came back with his foster father and several other villagers, the dog was nowhere to be seen, presumably having been swept away by the rising flood waters. His foster father scolded Kai for not acting sooner, before comforting his crying boy. A little girl named Elisa stepped forward and offered Kai a piece of candy to cheer him up. Kai later returned the kindness by gifting Elisa ten pieces of candy, and the two became close friends.
MÄR Ω[]
Six years after the end of the Second Great MÄR Heaven War, Hanau hosts a Fake ÄRM tournament in the town square in which several acquaintances of Kai participate in. Elisa waves to Kai passing by in the the crowd and boasts about advancing to the semi-finals, asking him to watch her win the tournament. Leon walks up from behind her and uses the opportunity to mock Kai for being unable to use any ÄRMs while admiring Ginta Toramizu. Elisa watches the two brawl briefly before stepping in to stop the fight. Elisa optimistically states how her abilities have improved using a Fake ÄRM when she also couldn't use a real ÄRM before, inviting Kai to try it out as well. Kai declines, saying he had no need as he would one day create his own that he could use. Leon remarks that remnants of the Chess Pieces are still active and they could easily kill Kai due to being defenseless. Elisa winks saying that she'd protect him, much to Leon's dismay. She and Leon then head back to the square, parting from Kai.
